Due to those limitations as mentioned in item 6, we did not proceed far in developing a Pocket PC
application without testing it on real device. We had used a USB connection to our Pocket PC
device, it actually saves development time by using the emulator, particularly when debugging.
8. Pee-LoPPCA implementation.
Pee-LoPPCA is implemented successfully, but there are some drawbacks. For instance, the
application is running slow in Pocket PC due to the limitations of memory and buffer size of Pocket
PC. Furthermore, data has to be retrieved from desktop database through XML Web service;
hence it needs more processing time than ordinary desktop applications.
Several screenshots are available at Appendix D.
4.3.3.4 Implementation Challenges
There are several problems encountered during learning process where we did not have enough
references and sources to help us in achieving our initial goal. First step is always the hardest. I
was trying hard to learn new thing like unfamiliar programming languages.
After designing Pee-LoPPCA interface and making it accessible to Web service and database, I
had faced a great problem in coding. Coding with a new language and without proper reference
was a great pain. Fortunately, my team members had helped me in finding resources in order to
solve my problem.
Following that, the limitation of .NET Compact Framework which stated earlier was causing a
number of problems as well. Thus I had tried to find other alternatives and made things work in
another way.
In addition, some unexpected problems occurred during the second and third version of Pee-
LoPPCA interface design. For instance, some necessary controls went missing without any
changes to the application.
4.3.4 Pee-Lo Mobile Web Access
Written By: TIE Sing Chie
Edited By: NG Ruenn Shy
Pee-Lo Mobile Web Access (Pee-LoMWA) is developed to support all kinds of PDA that is not of
the Pocket PC type.  It is developed using ASP .NET by TIE Sing Chie.  The development work
and progress is similar to that of Pee-LoWA since Pee-LoMWA is also a web access application
with the only different that it is developed to work optimal on PDA web browsers.
Pee-LoMWA follows the functionality featured in Pee-LoPPCA since its aim is to bring Pee-
LoPPCA’s functionality to the web for non Pocket PC PDAs.  However, Pee-LoMWA is designed to
deal with Pee-LoPPCA’s screen limitation problem.  Since Pee-LoMWA is run from within a
browser, it has more ‘space’ for maneuverability.  Apart from that, all the underlying functionalities
remain the same as that of Pee-LoPPCA.
